We want to thank again those who participated in the parent meetings we held in March to discuss the new Diocesan Catechetical standards, the current state of the St. Gregory the Great Faith Formation Program, where we need improvement and how we might realize those improvements. Here are those documents for your review:

Current Issues In the St. Gregory the Great Faith Formation Program
The parents present broke into groups and brainstormed methods by which we might solve some of the issues and improve the Faith Formation program, making it more family-friendly among other things. Here is a Meeting Summary Chart of the Ideas, Pro’s and Con’s that were recommended at the meeting.
As a result, the Faith Formation staff, with permission from Fr. Nick, have decided to make the following changed to next year’s program:
· Elementary Faith Formation Session times will begin 15 minutes earlier, with the exception of the 7:00am and Thursday Sessions. There will be no time changes for the Middle School Faith Formation sessions.
· There will be Pre-School Faith Formation at 8:15a.m. & 10:15a.m.
· Parent participation will be increased by
o Inviting parents into the classroom as occasional volunteers
o Introducing a Family Faith Formation Session during Advent
· Faith Formation will be held on more weekends (fewer weekends off)
· Communication will be improved
o Faith Formation will try to send single topic e-mails instead of long, multi-topic, epic novels. J
o Catechists will be strongly encouraged to communicate on a weekly basis with their parents via e-mail, Twitter, a Facebook page or whatever means is deemed the most useful.
o Faith Formation is also going to consider more up-to-date means of communicating as well.
· All-new format parent/child orientation meetings in the fall will explain family roles in catechesis as well as allow parents to meet their catechists face-to-face, get contact information, etc.
I hope this provides you with plenty of information! Don’t forget to go to the website for a deeper explanation of the issues involved!

CURRICULUM
Our first grade through eighth grade programs follow the lectionary cycle using the spiral curriculum developed by RCL and is called Faith First. Kindergarten will be following Sadlier’s We Believe program. It is important to note that Faith Formation should be a life-long process and children learn at different depths throughout their academic careers. Children are expected to remain in Faith Formation continuously through 8th grade in preparation for life as adult learners. Faith Formation should not be solely considered for the purposes of Sacramental preparation.
RCL maintains a wonderful, interactive and informative website at www.FaithFirst.com. We hope you will take the time to explore its content and introduce your children to the games and activities available to them. Sadlier also has a wonderful website at www.webelieveweb.com.
Keep checking back in! We're updating and upgrading the Faith Formation website on a regular basis. If there is information you would like to see on the site, please let me know - cheryl@stgg.org.
