Divine Mercy Sunday
“Praise the LORD, all you nations! Extol him, all you peoples! His mercy for us is strong; the faithfulness of the LORD is forever. Hallelujah!.”
Psalms 117:1-2

As Fr. Michael Gaitley said, the time is “Mercy”. St. John Paul II said that the modern time and the culture of death are continually growing and the forces of evil are making many attacks all over the world. And the good news is, in times of great sin and evil, God gives extraordinary grace and mercy because St. Paul said in Romans 5:20 “Where sin abounded, grace abounded all the more”.

At this present time, we are living in an extraordinary time of grace and mercy. God is pouring out a superabundance of grace all over the world because God is never outdone by evil and the more forces of evil seem to grow, the more grace God is giving to us for a particular time. Right now it is the Easter season, all the more that the mercy of God abounds. You might ask, what is mercy? Mercy is love that seeks to forgive, console, assist, and care for others in time of need. Mercy is an act of love done without expecting anything in return; it is done for love itself.

What is Divine Mercy? It is the manifestation of Jesus as follows:

  • Jesus took upon Himself our punishment that we might be forgiven
  • Jesus was wounded that we might be healed
  • Jesus was made sin for us that in Him we might become the righteousness of God
  • Jesus became poor for our sakes, that we might share His abundance
  • Jesus bore our shame that we might share His glory
  • Jesus endured our rejection that we might have His acceptance with the Father
  • Jesus was made a curse that we might enter into the blessing

How to receive Divine Mercy?

For us to receive the Divine Mercy we need to do the following:

  • First, we need to go to confession and ask for God’s forgiveness and mercy.
  • Second, we need to receive Holy Communion by attending the Mass.
  • Third, we need to do the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy like feeding the hungry, visiting the sick or the imprisoned, clothing the naked, or welcoming the stranger. Be merciful as the Father is merciful. Let us be the hands and feet of God.
  • Fourth, we need to pray and pray as much as we can. Go spend time with the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. Jesus is longing for us to spend time with Him.
  • Lastly, we need to have complete trust in God. He is in control of everything. When things are not going well in our lives, we need to cling to God because Jesus said we need to trust in Him. I know it’s not easy to do, but it’s the best thing we can do.

Sister Faustina on Adoration

Come and console Jesus! He is waiting for you at the Adoration Chapel. Please spend an hour to be with Him.

According to the Diary of St. Faustina, Jesus told her,

“I am more deeply wounded by the small imperfections of chosen souls than by the sins of those living in the world. These little imperfections are not all. I will reveal to you a secret of My Heart: what I suffer from chosen souls. Ingratitude in return for so many graces is My Heart’s constant food, on the part of such a chosen soul. Their love is lukewarm, and My Heart cannot bear it; these souls force me to reject them.

Others distrust My goodness and have no desire to experience that sweet intimacy in their own hearts, but go in search of Me, off in the distance, and do not ind Me. This distrust of My goodness hurts Me very much. If My death has not convinced you of My love, what will? Often a soul wounds Me mortally, and then no one can comfort Me. They use My graces to offend Me. There are souls who despise My graces as well as all the proofs of My love. They do not wish to hear My call, but proceed into the abyss of hell. The loss of these souls plunges Me into deadly sorrow. God though I am, I cannot help such a soul because it scorns Me; having a free will, it can spurn Me or love Me. 

You, who are the dispenser of My mercy, tell all the world about My goodness, and thus you will comfort My Heart”.

I will tell you most when you converse with Me in the depths of your heart. Here, no one can disturb My actions. Here, I rest as in a garden enclosed”.

Sister Faustina

God loves us so much that one day Jesus appeared to a young nun named Sister Faustina Kowalska from Poland back in 1925. Sister Faustina wrote in her diary all the things that she has seen and experienced especially the messages of Jesus about the Divine Mercy.

Feast of the Divine Mercy

Jesus said to St. Faustina: “I desire that there be a Feast of Mercy. I want this image, which you will paint with a brush, to be solemnly blessed on the irst Sunday after Easter; that Sunday is to be the Feast of Mercy.”

Jesus said: “Souls perish in spite of my bitter Passion. I am giving them the last hope of salvation; that is, the Feast of My Mercy. If they will not adore My mercy, they will perish for
all eternity. Secretary of My mercy, write, tell souls about this great Mercy of Mine, because the awful day, the day of My justice is near.

St. Faustina wrote: “In the evening, when I was in my cell, I saw the Lord Jesus clothed in a white garment. One hand was raised in the gesture of blessing, the other was touching the garment at the breast. From beneath the garment, slightly drawn aside at the breast, there were emanating two large rays, one red, the other pale. In silence I kept my gaze fixed on the Lord; my soul was struck with awe, but also with great joy. After a while, Jesus said to me, “Paint an image according to the pattern you see, with this signature: Jesus, I trust in You. I desire that this image be venerated, irst in your chapel, and then throughout the world. I promise that the soul that will venerate this image will not perish. I also promise victory over its enemies already here on earth, especially at the hour of death. I Myself will defend it as My own glory.”‘

Novena of the Divine Mercy

Jesus said, “This prayer will serve to appease My wrath. You will recite it for nine days, on the beads of the rosary, in the following manner: First of all, you will say one Our Father and Hail Mary and the I Believe In God. Then on the Our Father beads you will say the following words: “Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.” In conclusion, three times you will recite these words: “Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.” Click for the novena

Chaplet of the Divine Mercy

Jesus said, “Say unceasingly the chaplet that I have taught you. Whoever will recite it will receive great mercy at the hour of death. Priests will recommend it to sinners as their last hope of salvation. Even if there were a sinner most hardened, if he were to recite this chaplet only once, he would receive grace.”

St. Faustina wrote: “While I was saying the Chaplet, I heard a voice which said, “Oh, what great graces I will grant to souls who say this chaplet; the very depths of My tender mercy are stirred for the sake of those who say the chaplet. Write down these words My daughter. Speak to the world about My mercy; let all mankind recognize My unfathomable mercy. It is a sign for the end times; after it will come the day of justice. While there is still time, let them have recourse to the fount of My mercy; let them profit from the Blood and Water which gushed forth for them.”

Hour of the Divine Mercy

Jesus said, “At 3:00, implore My mercy, especially for sinners; and if only for a brief moment, immerse yourself in my Passion, particularly in My abandonment at the moment of agony. This is the hour of great mercy for the whole world. I will allow you to enter into My mortal sorrow. In this hour, I will refuse nothing to the soul that makes a request of Me in virtue of My Passion.”
