Pope Leo XIV
(His Eminence Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost)

Thursday of the Third Week of Easter
May 8, 2025

The election of our new Holy Father is cause for rejoicing for St. Gregory the Great and Catholics everywhere! His Eminence Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost is the 267th successor to St. Peter. He is also the first American Pope and the first Augustinian Pope, so he’s already making history. This marks a powerfully new chapter in the life of the Church. With our joy and gratitude, we pray that the new Holy Father will have a long and grace-filled papacy!

“Peace be with all of you!” – the first words of Pope Leo XIV. The Conclave has elected Robert Francis Cardinal Prevost as the 267th Bishop of Rome. The new pope was announced to the waiting crowds by Cardinal Protodeacon Dominique Mamberti.

Prayer for our New pope

O God, who in your providential design
willed that your Church be built upon blessed Peter,
whom you set over the other Apostles,
look with favor, we pray, on Leo our Pope
and grant that he, whom you have made Peter’s successor,
may be for your people a visible source and foundation of unity in faith and of communion.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
