Pope Leo XIV
(His Eminence Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost)
Thursday of the Third Week of Easter
May 8, 2025
The election of our new Holy Father is cause for rejoicing for St. Gregory the Great and Catholics everywhere! His Eminence Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost is the 267th successor to St. Peter. He is also the first American Pope and the first Augustinian Pope, so he’s already making history. This marks a powerfully new chapter in the life of the Church. With our joy and gratitude, we pray that the new Holy Father will have a long and grace-filled papacy!
“Peace be with all of you!” – the first words of Pope Leo XIV. The Conclave has elected Robert Francis Cardinal Prevost as the 267th Bishop of Rome. The new pope was announced to the waiting crowds by Cardinal Protodeacon Dominique Mamberti. The Vatican News |
