These are the last two paragraphs of the Mission Discourse in the Gospel of Matthew. If we look at chapter 10 as one unit, we could hear Jesus saying to us: “I’m sending you out, giving you authority to be in the world as an extension of the mission you have seen Me carrying out: proclaiming that the Kingdom of heaven is at hand, healing, curing, raising the dead, driving out demons, teaching, loving, forgiving” (v. 1, 7).
BUT…You will find it no easier than I…. If they have called me Beelzebub, then they will also call you this (v. 25).
REMEMBER THIS…Everyone who acknowledges Me before others I will acknowledge before My heavenly Father (v. 32). This is the end, what we look forward to: a relationship—to stand before the heavenly Father with and in Christ!
SO…Don’t control things by packing up everything so you can rely on material things for your safety. Don’t move around trying to find the best situation for yourselves according to who will care for you the best. Don’t plan ahead for your defense (v. 9-23).
And then three times Jesus says:
Do not be afraid (v. 26, 28, 31). I am inviting you into a relationship. I am a link, in a sense, that brings you into direct relationship with the Father who loves you and cares for you more than the sparrows. Others—mother, father, siblings—may reject you when you enter into a relationship with Me, but my Father will never leave you without his help.
AND YOU TOO ARE A LINK NOW FOR OTHERS…Be a strong link. Align yourself with Me. Do not grasp onto and preserve your identity, control, security, or self-centered desires pursued on your own terms. Instead, lose your life for My sake (v. 39), surrendering it in trust and obedience, giving up your own agenda to follow Me. Take the risk to love Me and trust Me. Only I can give you eternal life.
When you do this, you become a link for others to come to Me. When they receive you, they receive Me, and when they receive Me, they receive the one who sent Me (v. 40). Even if you just give them a dixie cup filled with cold water, this kindness from you will link them to Me (v. 42). Everyone’s story will look very different, and your choices are your own as Jesus leads you. Jesus is still able to walk about reaching others and bringing them into His relationship with the Father through you.
You have been commissioned by Jesus. Who is waiting for you to become this link for them?

Si consideramos el capítulo 10 como una unidad, podríamos escuchar a Jesús diciéndonos: Los envío, les doy autoridad para estar en el mundo como una extensión de la misión que me han visto llevar a cabo: proclamar que el Reino de los Cielos está cerca, sanar, curar, resucitar muertos, expulsar demonios, enseñar, amar, perdonar (v. 1, 7).
PERO… No lo encontrarán más fácil que yo… Si me han llamado Beelzebú, también los llamarán así (v. 25).
RECUERDEN ESTO… A todo el que me reconozca ante los demás, yo también lo reconoceré ante mi Padre celestial (v. 32). Este es el fin, lo que anhelamos: una relación: ¡presentarnos ante el Padre celestial con y en Cristo!
ASÍ QUE… No controlen las cosas empacando todo para poder confiar en las cosas materiales para su seguridad. No anden buscando la mejor situación para ustedes, según quién los cuide mejor. No planifiquen con anticipación su defensa (v. 9-23).
Y luego, tres veces Jesús dice:
No tengan miedo (v. 26, 28, 31). Te invito a una relación. Soy un vínculo, en cierto sentido, que te conecta directamente con el Padre que te ama y te cuida más que a los gorriones. Otros —madre, padre, hermanos— pueden rechazarte cuando entras en una relación conmigo, pero mi Padre nunca te dejará sin su ayuda.
Y TÚ TAMBIÉN ERES UN VÍNCULO AHORA PARA LOS DEMÁS… Sé un vínculo fuerte. Alinéate conmigo. No te aferres ni conserves tu identidad, control, seguridad ni deseos egocéntricos que persigues según tus propios términos. En cambio, pierde tu vida por mí (v. 39) entregándola con confianza y obediencia, renunciando a tus propios planes para seguirme. Arriésgate a amarme y confiar en mí. Solo yo puedo darte vida eterna.
Al hacer esto, te conviertes en un vínculo para que otros vengan a mí. Cuando te reciben, me reciben a mí, y cuando me reciben a mí, reciben a quien me envió (v. 40). Incluso si solo les das un vaso lleno de agua fría, esta bondad tuya los conectará conmigo (v. 42). La historia de cada persona será muy diferente, y tus decisiones son tuyas mientras Jesús te guía. Jesús aún puede caminar por el mundo alcanzando a otros y llevándolos a su relación con el Padre a través de ti.
Has sido comisionado por Jesús. ¿Quién espera que seas ese vínculo para ellos?
