“Is anyone among you sick? He should summon the presbyters of the church, and they should pray over him and anoint [him] with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will save the sick person, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed any sins, he will be forgiven.”
James 5:14-15
The Sacrament of Anointing is a Sacrament of healing and forgiveness, where we are assured of God’s great love for us. It is available to anyone who is suffering from illness, anxiety, or distress of any kind. It can be administered as often as needed in one’s lifetime and is no longer reserved for those close to death. Its effect is the strengthening of the soul, often of the body as well, and in the necessary conditions remission of sins.
Today, the Church offers everyone the healing comfort of sacramental anointing. Seek this sacrament if any of the following conditions are true:
- If you are seriously ill.
- If you are scheduled for surgery.
- If you are seeking emotional healing.
- If you have a chronic illness or pain.
- If you are elderly or in fragile health.
- If you are depressed or grieving.
- If you are in danger of death.
Saint Gregory the Great regularly schedules healing Masses where anyone can come forward to be anointed and prayed over. If you or a loved one need immediate anointing, please contact the parish office.
