Whispering Winds Catholic Camp & Conference Center is a refuge, a place where youth, individuals, couples, families, and groups can get away and hear God’s voice in the beauty of nature. Nestled in the Cuyamaca Mountains, Whispering Winds is located on 161 acres in the scenic Cleveland National Forest, five miles south of the historic gold-mining town of Julian – about an hour’s drive from San Diego.

We are a lay-directed, tax-exempt, nonprofit corporation. While we are the only Catholic-based camp of its kind in all of Southern California, Whispering Winds is open to all faiths.

Cathy Sperrazzo grew up in Brooklyn, New York, and Los Angeles, California. For years, she and her husband, John, have helped increase the enrollment and branding of local private and public schools serving children in the early education, preschool, elementary, middle, and high school environments. Cathy’s most rewarding experiences have been working in education to help make a positive impact on students’ lives.

Cathy is a faith-filled mother of five who loves to spend her free time playing tennis and pickleball, taking walks on the beach, traveling to Italy, cooking elaborate meals for her family, painting, and making pottery.

Mattie Scull and her husband, Deacon Jim Scull, have been married for forty years and have four adult children (three boys and one girl). They have lived in San Diego for over fifty‐five years and have been active members of Ascension Parish in Tierra Santa for nearly forty years.

Mattie is a Registered Nurse Practitioner specializing in Women’s Health. She loves to volunteer her time with Ascension Confirmation preparation and Faith Formation, the Women of Ascension, Cursillo, the Whispering Winds Women’s Auxiliary, and the Deaconate Mentoring Program.
