Are you feeling a gentle nudge toward the Catholic church? That spiritual longing you feel is God drawing you to Himself. Becoming Catholic is a joyful experience, and it starts merely with self-exploration.
The best way to discern your path of faith is to begin experiencing the life of the parish by attending church services (Mass). All are welcome to attend Mass; you do not have to be Catholic. Although it may be intimidating that first time, you’ll quickly see that it’s easy to blend in and follow along. You will never be put on the spot or asked to sign anything, and during the quiet prayerful times, you can talk to God in your own words. Most Catholics do receive communion at each Mass, so until you’re ready just sit back and take in the beauty and reverence of it all. Another way to further your exploration is to review the Catechism of the Catholic church. This publication is free and available online by clicking here. It may also be helpful to read the conversion stories of others. There are many resources available; a few of our favorites are highlighted below.
The formal process of conversion is called “The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults” (OCIA). Saint Gregory the Great has a wonderful ministry devoted to teaching and welcoming new people into the faith. More about this ministry can be found here: OCIA.
